By: Brittany Burdick – A local influencer and club organizer in Kansas City.

Hello! My name is Brittany Burdick, and I run the Instagram page @kclocalevents.

I started it back in August of 2018 when my husband was trying to promote an event he was hosting in the Crossroads. I looked on Instagram to see if there was a page that promoted local events, but there wasn’t one. Kansas City is very locally driven, and I thought people here could benefit from something like that. Therefore, KC Local Events was born!

Starting an Instagram page with no social media marketing experience was definitely interesting at times! An influencer? What’s that? It was extremely difficult gauging what people liked to see! There were so many times that I wanted to stop, but once I got going, I started to really enjoy it!

I started a number of clubs because it had become very apparent to me that it is extremely difficult for adults to make new friends in a city. Where do you start? As a KC implant, I struggled to make friends as an adult. I have gone to many establishments and events alone. The hardest part is just getting yourself to go. Once you are there, it goes well. Just rip off that initial awkward bandaid and introduce yourself to someone.

I now have 4 clubs: Book, Wine, Liquid Enthusiasts and Mama’s. We meet up once a month to enjoy our common interests and meet new people. It has been absolutely amazing to hear stories of people who have created friendships that now have branched out beyond the clubs!

Over time, I’ve grown into promoting all things Kansas City local, which is what I think people like about the page. There is so much more to come from this little endeavor, and I cannot wait to see where this takes me! I love this city. :)
