While spring hasn’t yet sprung, we’re ready to put the petal to the metal. And what better way to celebrate the season of growth and renewal than with a brilliant bunch of flowers? From u-pick experiences to CSAs and flower trucks, here are nine local flower farms + subscriptions to explore.
Take your pick
Colonial Gardens | 27610 E. Wyatt Rd., Blue Springs
While the fields are still being prepped for its June debut, this u-cut experience offers blooms by the bucket — literally. Fit as many fresh stems as you can in a five-gallon bucket for $45, and reuse the receptacle next time you come for $15 off.
Klamm Flowers | 15983 166th St., Bonner Springs, KS
Feel good about the flowers you bring home knowing this Bonner Springs farm uses sustainable methods, such as minimal pest management and low-impact fertilization. Plus, keep an eye out for its photo shoot sessions in the flower maze.
My Front Yard Flower Farm | 2025 E Wyandotte St, Olathe, KS
This farm is already open for the season with daffodils and forsythia, according to its bloom report. Choose between a cup of flowers for $29, 12 stems for $12, or a grab-and-go selection for $39.
Stonebriar Farm | 9035 Edgerton Rd, De Soto, KS
After skipping last season, StoneBriar is reopening to the public during the second Sunday of each month, July to October. This sunset u-pick experience is priced by the stem, but you can book private workshops for a $75 deposit.
Sunflower-centric
Gieringer’s Family Farm | 39675 W. 183rd St., Edgerton, KS
Zinnias and snapdragons are already stealing the show, but the real stars are set to bloom in time for the Butterfly Festival, complete with a mass butterfly release at noon on Saturday, Sept. 13 + Sunday, Sept. 14. Pro tip: don’t leave without grabbing seasonal donuts + slushies from the farm store.
KC Pumpkin Patch | 13875 S. Gardner Rd., Olathe, KS
Don’t be fooled by the name. This Olathe gem is a year-round festival hotspot. Case in point: this weekend’s KC Sunflower Festival, featuring Insta-ready blooms, 60+ farm activities, and even an on-site winery.
Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum | 4109 N.E. Pleasant Valley Rd., Gladstone
Stop by Saturday, Aug. 23 for prime sunflower picking and photo ops, or lace up for the Sunflower 5k at 8 a.m., winding through lush farmland with plenty of golden backdrops.
Johnson Farms | 17701 Holmes Rd., Belton
This spot is fall’s greatest hits album: think sunflower fields, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes. Starting Friday, Sept. 5, the farm kicks off its harvest season with u-pick sunflowers at peak bloom — the perfect warm-up before trading your bouquet for bushels of apples and wagon rides through the crisp autumn air.
