Need to know

You’re not the only one with your eyes set on the Crossroads Art District. The neighborhood is known for First Fridays, numerous art galleries, the craft beverage district, and it has an average walk score of 88 — which is very walkable. It makes sense that 9,000+ Kansas Citians choose this district to call home.

The early days

Before it was called the Crossroads, the area was considered part of Midtown — or less excitingly, “the area between Downtown and Crown Center.” When an influx of galleries came in 1980s, the name Crossroads Arts District became the status quo, with a new neighborhood association making it official in 2001.

Lets take it back even further — the 1930s. When the movie industry needed more centralized distribution points to ship their features nationwide, Hollywood chose KC, creating the Film Row. This included major studio tenants such as MGM, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and United Artists. Today, Kansas City has one of the most intact Film Row districts in the nationwe’re kind of a big deal.

Mean Mule spirit

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere if it means we’re drinking one of these.

Can’t miss

Running low on time? A trip to Crossroads isn’t complete without a slice of pizza from Grinders and a beer from one of many microbreweries. Not a beer drinker? Try out an agave spirit from Mean Mule Distilling Co. after a stop by the monthly Vintage Flea Market. Plus, our friends at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts are right down the street — try to factor it into your day. You’ll thank us later.
