Get rain ready

On rainy days it can be tempting to curl up in your bed and let the daylight snoooze by. If instead you’d like to let the spirit of adventure seize you, we have a few ideas to help you carpe KC during rainshowers.

Stroll through a museum

Take advantage of time inside to learn something new. See the latest exhibit at the Kemper Museum, bring the kids to Wonderscope, or let your curiosity race at the KC Auto Museum.

Play it out

Parents and caregivers can kick up their heels while little ones can get their energy out at indoor gyms and play-cafes like Urban Air Adventure Park, Science City, and Hümanette.

Strike out boredom

Here’s a fun way to spend your spare time: Visit Ward Parkway Lanes or try No Other Pub in the Power & Light District for bowling + way more games. This is sure to be right up anyone’s alley.

Find a new read

Is there anything better than flipping open a book while thunder booms outside? Get lost in KCMO’s iconic Central library downtown, or visit one of KC’s independent book shops for the latest bestsellers, classics, or gently-used books. We recommend sipping a local coffee while you read.

Climb around or dabble in the paddle

As the rain falls down, you can climb up. Visit one of KC’s rock-climbing spots, like RoKC Underground, which features — you guessed it —an underground climbing wall. Chicken N Pickle is also primed for your rainy day fun, with indoor courts waiting for you. Pro Tip: Reserve your court ahead of time so you can have plenty o’ picklin’.

Get your game on

Head to Activate for a variety of fully immersive games suitable for all ages. Adults can continue the fun by going axe throwing at Blade and Timber or Bury the Hatchet.

Have another fun way to avoid the showers? Make like the rain and drop us a line — we may share your suggestion.
