9 Spirit Halloween stores come to the Kansas City area

The store finds vacant retail spaces and signs temporary leases to set up shop leading up to Halloween — but locations can change each year.

Can you guess what retailer occupied this space before Spirit Halloween?

Do you remember the Bed Bath & Beyond on Shawnee Mission Parkway? What about Lee’s Summit’s former Tuesday Morning? Those retail spaces have something in common — they’re getting dressed up as Spirit Halloween stores.

The seasonal chain has converted nine vacant retail spaces in the Kansas City metro area into Spirit Halloween stores, including:

  • 6753 Johnson Dr., Mission, KS — next to Planet Fitness
  • 501a NW Barry Rd., KCMO — inside Metro North Square
  • 15400 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., Shawnee, KS — formerly Bed Bath & Beyond
  • 8550 N. Flintlock Rd., KCMO — next to Best Buy
  • 12010 W. 95th St., Lenexa, KS — next to O’Reilly
  • 19850 E. Jackson Dr., Independence, MO — formerly Party City
  • 1011 W. 136th St., KCMO — next to Dollar Tree
  • 901 NW O’Brien Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO — formerly Tuesday Morning
  • 1153 E. North Ave., Belton, MO — next to Petsmart

Spirits’ lore

Let’s pull the mask off and learn more. Spirit Halloween finds temporary leases and moves into retail spaces that would otherwise be vacant. This is why there are so many — to the point it’s become a meme — and they might be in different locations next year. Did you know? The chain is owned by Spencer Gifts LLC, you know, that quirky novelty store from the mall.

Local shops

Prefer to shop local? There are many stores with a scary selection of new and pre-owned clothing that can help you create a Halloween costume (or dress you up any day of the year). We recommend:
