🏈 Welcome to the Red Kingdom

A guide to the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season

Chiefs Kingdom, grab your red and gold gear — football season is back. Let’s dive into all things game day before the Chiefs’ first preseason game at home this Saturday, Aug. 17.

On and off the field

Doesn’t last season feel like an eon ago? After our back-to-back Super Bowl wins, the Chiefs offseason was a relatively quiet one — mainly dominated by news of Hallmark’s Travis + Taylor-inspired love story.

On the field, the red and gold may look a little different. Stars like Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, and Isiah Pacheco are back in business, but there are plenty of rookies running through the tunnel soon. Here’s who we’re keeping an eye on:
  • Xavier Worthy, wide receiver
  • Kingsley Suamataia, offensive tackle
  • Jared Wiley, tight end

Tune in from home

Watch this weekend’s game on KSHB 41 or stream it on the NFL Network, NFL+, Chiefs.com, and the Chiefs mobile app. Locals can also listen to games all season long on KC’s newly-minted sports-only FM radio station, 96.5 The Fan.

Watching in-season games won’t be so simple. Starting Thursday, Sept. 5, Chiefs fans will have to use a variety of streaming services + local channels to catch all 17 games.

Reminder: Thursday Night Football will be streamed exclusively on Prime Video, which you’ll need a Prime membership to watch.

News Notes
Sports
  • A challenger has emerged. The Royals aren’t giving up on their downtown stadium dreams, but this time they’re looking further south — Washington Square Park, to be exact. (Kansas City Star)
Festival
  • 816 Day is upon us, so remember to celebrate accordingly. We recommend donning KC gear head to toe, ordering your fave barbecue, and hopping on the streetcar to join the city’s all-day party downtown.
Open
  • After you sleep off tonight’s festivities, roll out of bed tomorrow and keep the party going at Raytown’s Gnarly Hustle. The thrift store is debuting its new in-house bar with vintage pop-ups, a Chiefs watch party + live performances by Zac Lepper and Phantom Sam. (The Pitch)
Biz
  • Local startup Companion Protect closed its latest funding round with a bark... ahem, we meant “bang.” The Leawood-based company, which works with insurance providers to develop pet-related policies, raised $20.5 million to continue its work with national brands like Liberty Mutual. (Kansas City Business Journal)
Plan Ahead
Home
  • Cringe alert: Every 24 hours, 27,000 trees are cut down for toilet paper. But this new bamboo toilet paper just might save the planet. It feels just like high-end TP, but doesn’t harm trees. Plus, code 6AM30 gives you 30% off your first purchase. Read more.*
Finance
  • Did you know some credit cards can actually help you get out of debt faster? (It sounds wild, but it’s true.) The secret: Find a credit card with a “0% intro APR” period for balance transfers. These are hands down some of the best.*
Wellness
  • Curious about CBD gummies? Cornbread Hemp is giving first time customers a second jar for free with code SUMMERTIMEBOGO. Choose from watermelon, berry, peach, or special sleep varieties.*

From the editor
Whenever I need to put my head down and write, it always helps to have a little external stimuli present. These days, that means taking my morning meetings from the counter at Mildred’s, snickerdoodle latte in hand.

People-watching + a clear view of the sandwich assembly station = my perfect workplace.
