The new KCI terminal will officially open Tuesday, Feb. 28slightly ahead of the March target — Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced.

“Anyone from around the world who’s flying through KCI will see not just a state-of-the-art airport, but an airport that tells the story of Kansas City,” Lucas said of the local art installations and restaurants.

Build KCI generated ~6,000 construction jobs, including 240 local firms.

The $1.5 billion terminal is the largest infrastructure project in the city’s history. The facility will open with 40 gates and the ability to expand to 50. The parking structure across from the check-in hall includes 6,200 spaces, smart technology, and solar panels.

Officials state the project remains within budget.

Take a peek at KCI’s incoming local restaurants, and stay tuned for our airport guide coming in February.
