Editor Charmaine here. Recently, I attended dinner + a show at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. I’ve visited the Kauffman Center many times, but this was my first time seeing a show and, let me tell you, it was phenomenal.
What we tried
Before the show, my husband and I dined at the Kauffman Center in the Founders’ Lounge. From drinks to small plates to dessert, the experience was elevated and delicious.
After dinner, we watched Grammy-award winning jazz singer Gregory Porter perform in the acoustically-balanced theater. The Kauffman Center prides itself on providing world-class performers, and Porter’s performance was no exception.
In true jazz fashion, every band member shined with solos and riffs galore — the crowd loved it.

What not to miss
- Indulge in dessert in the Founders’ Lounge in the Kauffman Center (pro tip: order the apple frangipane tart with miso cider ice cream).
- Admire the view. The Brandmeyer Great Hall’s floor-to-ceiling windows overlook KC.
- Get a center seat. There’s something special about acoustics when you sit center.
What we’re still talking about
If you’re a true music lover, then experiencing diverse performances with incredible acoustics will make your heart sing. To top it off, the staff’s attentiveness made my experience truly delightful.
How you can experience this
The Kauffman Center’s performance calendar is packed with incredible options every weekend. Browse and buy tickets online, and then make a dinner reservation at the Founders’ Lounge for the same day.
Pro tip: Schedule dinner at least two hours before showtime to have ample time to savor the flavor.
