Work is beginning on the upcoming Rock Island Bridge entertainment district — located near the Hy-Vee Arena.
Michael Zeller, CEO of the development team Flying Truss LLC, told KCtoday that LG Barcus construction crews are mobilizing on Monday, March 6.
The project claims to be “America’s first trailhead and entertainment district over a river.” Developers plan to convert the abandoned railroad bridge into a spot for local food + drink options, entertainment, and even a zipline over the water .
Michael said an official groundbreaking ceremony will happen in April. The date has not been announced.
Leaders are targeting a spring 2024 opening.
