BBBSKC’s Turn the Corner campaign in Kansas City

Table of Contents

How are Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City, Hy-Vee, and Zarda Bar-B-Q kicking off the start of football season? We’re so, so glad you asked.

It’s the second season of the Turn the Corner campaign, BBBSKC’s city-wide fundraising effort presented by L’Jarius and local partners. To help hit their goal of $25,000, they’re cooking up something really tasty.

The cause

Big Brothers Big Sisters works to protect the potential of kids through positive adult mentorship and removing financial burdens — from summer camp to prom dresses + tuxes.

What we’re doing is the toy department,” said Zarda COO Terry Hyer. “Playing football, building sandwiches, having barbecue — but what’s happening at Big Brothers Big Sisters is real life. We’re impacting, we’re changing Kansas City literally one person at a time.

The campaign

Donations to Turn the Corner will go straight to support BBBS’s efforts in the metro. Let’s run through the donation tiers:

  • $20: Enter to win two tickets to dinner with L’Jarius Sneed.
  • $150: Receive a signed mini-helmet.
  • $300: Receive a signed replica jersey.
  • $500: Get a signed replica, two seats at a VIP dinner, a photo op + signed jersey.

And that’s just online donations. There’s one more way to support the campaign.

The sandwich

Supporting a good cause fills your heart — but there’s no reason you can’t fill your belly, too.The KC Takeaway” sandwich is decked with Zarda burnt ends, pulled pork, and sauce, plus pepper jack cheese.

Take it from City Editor Travis: “This puppy is loaded with all the goods — the perfect meat-splosion. That and fries all for $10 is a really good deal.” ~$1 from each purchase will go to Turn the Corner.

The campaign is on now, but you’ll have to wait for the sandwich to hit your nearest Zarda or Hy-Vee Market Grille on Red Friday, Sept. 9 — just in time for game day.
