Miss the thrill of the Olympics? Don’t worry, it’s almost time for a second dose of athleticism — with a side of KC Pride. The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are Wednesday, Aug. 28-Sunday, Sept. 8, and two metro athletes are ready to represent.

Yaseen El-Demerdash | Swimming

He studies engineering at the University of Kansas and, in his free time, does some competitive swimming, too.

El-Demerdash, who was born with Poland Syndrome, is already on a medaling streak. During the qualifiers, he won gold in the 50-meter freestyle, silver in the 100-meter butterfly, and bronze in the 100-meter freestyle at the 2024 qualifiers.

Brad Hudspeth | Wheelchair Rugby

Hudspeth grew up in Stilwell, KS playing a myriad of sports. When he was 15, he dove into shallow water, injuring his spinal cord. Eventually, he found Wheelchair Rugby, grabbing hold of the sports scene he loved.

Now, he’ll represent Team USA. Fingers crossed he brings home the gold.
