Bundle up, we’re hitting the ice. The Kansas City Mavericks begin the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 6:05 p.m. against Wichita Thunder. To celebrate, we’re lacing up our skates and giving you some team history.

History: The Mavericks are the longest tenured and consecutively operating professional hockey team in the history of Kansas City. The team is the ECHL affiliate for the NHL’s Seattle Kraken and AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Where they play: Cable Dahmer Arena

  • The arena opened in November 2009 as the home of the Mavericks, plus a performance venue for concerts and events.
  • Games at the arena can seat 5,800 fans.

Major accomplishments:

  • The Mavs qualified for the postseason in six of their first seven seasons.
  • The Mavericks won the John J. ‘Buck’ O’Neil Diamond MVP Award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City for the team’s charitable efforts with the Dinner on Ice event.
