The primary election on Tuesday, April 4 included both City Council candidates and local tax questions. While KC voters will still have to choose between the top two candidates for each district come June, four decisions were made regarding recreational marijuana and short-term rentals.

Should KCMO add a 3% tax on recreational marijuana sales? Kansas Citians voted yes.

Should KCMO impose a 7.5% tax on short-term rentals that don’t currently have to pay the city’s Convention and Tourism Tax? Voters approved this tax with 61% in favor.

Should KCMO increase the fee of an occupied room from $1.50 to $3 on all hotels, motels, and short-term rentals? Voters were 62% in favor vs. 38% opposed.

Should Jackson County add a 3% tax on recreational marijuana sales? The answer is yes according to 67% of voters.
