News Notes

Traffic

Slow your roll. Kansas City drivers can expect 120 more speed bumps across all six districts by year’s end, building on the 100 installed in 2024. Wondering if your street made the list? Check here. (KSHB-41)

Eat

Northlanders, get ready to dish: Off the Hook BBQ is now open with a limited menu ahead of its Tuesday, July 29 grand opening. Started by self-taught pitmaster Wardell Hooks Jr., the food truck-turned-catering standout is now a Gladstone brick-and-mortar. Sneak peek the menu. (Startland News)

Development

Children’s Mercy Park is expanding its playbook. Thanks to a new partnership with KC-based architecture giant Populous, a proposed project would renovate 11 acres of the stadium’s ticket entry areas and build a stage for live events — opening the field for small concerts, game-day festivities, and watch parties. (FOX4)
Missing the “Prince of Darkness?” Ozzy Osbourne once filmed a Midwest escapade in Missouri for “Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour,” including a stop at Shatto Milk Company, where he milked cows and left with four gallons of ice cream. As one does.

“Joearthur Gatestack” started as a tongue-in-cheek tee by JoCo math teacher Brendan Curran... until his childhood friend Jason Sudeikis wore it on “Ted Lasso.” With filming underway here in KC, snag yours before merch madness kicks in. Editor Maddie here. Curran was my Algebra 2 teacher — I may not remember the math, but I do remember his sick sneaker collection. (Kansas City Star)

Civic

Starting Wednesday, July 30, Kansas City’s new Animal Services Division will officially take over animal control duties. KC Pet Project will continue to run the Swope Park shelter. Residents can report concerns via 311 and, upon the changeover, the myKCMO site or the mobile app.
