And before you know it, it’s that time of year again. We’re talking about KC Restaurant Week, a delicious 10-day dining event in which your favorite local restaurants will offer prix fixe, multicourse menus.

Delectable details

Consider your meals prepped starting this Friday, Jan. 10 through next Sunday, Jan. 29. Diners can dig in to 245 participating restaurants — the event’s largest selection yet — with lunch, brunch + dinner menus priced at either $20, $40, or $55.

Reservations can be made through the KCRW website, or on the event’s free mobile app. Carryout and delivery options are also available for those who prefer to chow from the comfort of their couch (no judgement here).

Peek at the menu

Curious what sort of meal deals you can expect? Consider this an appetizer:
  • Banksia Bistro | 1183 Main St. | While its bakery is best known for brunch + lunch bites, the new downtown digs are primed for a four course dinner, featuring options like Australian lamb cutlets and chili prawn linguine.
  • Char Bar | Multiple locations | Start with biscuits and gravy or banana fritters for your morning meal, before moving on to a delicious selection of salmon benny, brunch burrito, pastrami hash, or a blackberry waffle.

News Notes

Opening

The Antler Room, but in Tokyo. That’s the idea behind Anjin, a new casual concept bringing its owners’ Japanese travels to the Crossroads this spring. The 20-seat space at 1708 Oak St. will feature a U-shaped bar, sake-heavy drink menu, and dishes like handmade udon noodles and onigiri. (Kansas City Magazine)

Real Estate

Former Sporting star Graham Zusi is behind Westside North’s newest potential housing development, BACI Westside. The six-unit residential project would transform undeveloped lots at 1639-1641 Summit St. into two-bedroom shotgun-style apartments, a small exercise room, and front-yard pocket park. (KCBJ)

Weather

Cold temps are here to stay, but at least we won’t see Snow-mageddon: Part 2 come Friday. Unfortunately, lingering snow and ice are delaying trash + recycling collection today for KCMO residents, who can expect to see additional bags collected next week. (Kansas City Star)

Giveaway

Dearest gentle readers… The Nelson-Atkins cordially invites you to Party Arty: Opulence & Intrigue, a night at the museum full of Regency-era dress, live performances, and delicious bites on Saturday, Feb. 1. Live our your “Bridgerton” dreams with a $170 ticket, or win you your way into two free tickets + an overnight stay at the Truitt.

Sports

Folks looking to bet a few bucks on a Chiefs three-peat are in for a bit of a bust. Though Amendment 2 passed in November, the Missouri Gaming Commission is still working to create sports gambling regulations and license operators. Expect wagers on the books by summer. (KCUR)

Closed

Property taxes and expensive overhead were the reasons given for RC’s Restaurant and Lounge’s sudden closure. The longtime Martin City staple served fried chicken at its 330 E. 135th St. location since 1982. The spot’s unique concrete facade is currently up for sale, listed at $2.1 million. The Wrap

Madison-McMillen.png
Between making a few new friends and engraving a Stella Artois chalice with “Gazpacho,” I tasted my way through all that yesterday’s KCRW preview had to offer. My verdict? You can’t go wrong anywhere, but my must-tries are as follows: Marina 27’s bacon wrapped Peppadews and Monogram Lounge at J. Rieger’s shrimp + grits.

Answered

What day in history did Kansas City experience the hottest temperature on record?

Hot, less hot, you’re getting colder... is what I wanted to say to the 35% of participants who were almost on the right track by answering August 29, 1984. The correct answer, August 14, 1936, beat the heat wave of ’84 by four degrees, totaling to a whopping 113°.
