Go hiking on the Bridle Trail, if it behooves you. | Photo by Sherry McLean
If you’re looking to spice up your hiking life, try hoofing it — literally — to the Bridle Trail, the only KC metro trail that’s horse friendly.
This hidden gem has a cult following, a popularity that left the trail looking a little trampled. That’s why the unified government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas recently kicked off a restoration campaign.
Last week, they completed the first step: adding signs. Now,you can get lost in your thoughts instead of the woods.
This duo helped debut the new signs at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Aside from its scenic views which morph with the seasons, the almost 10-mile route surrounding Wyandotte County Lake boasts bonuses like:
A designated horse trailer parking lot (of course)
Archery field
Off-leash dog run
A marina
Resident bald eagles
An outdoor gym
The Schlagle Library, which doubles as an environmental learning center
That means there’s plenty for you to do after you take Beauty out prancing.

Weather
Average temps this time of year sit around a balmy 69°, quite unlike the high 80s and 90s we’ve seen this October. If Midwestern weather has taught us anything though, it’s to expect the unexpected. Temps dropped dramatically overnight, making for our first frost + a chilly few days ahead. (Kansas City Star)
