⚽ Get ready for the Women’s Cup

What to know before CPKC Stadium’s home opener

Now that the Olympics have come to a close, it’s time to turn our attention to more important news: Kansas City sports.

The KC Current is hosting the Women’s Cup tournament, kicking off Wednesday, Aug. 14 — and it has a sweet $100,000 prize pool.

First, Atlético de Madrid will go against INAC Kobe at 5 p.m. Then the Current face the Sundowns at 8 p.m. Winners (ahem, the Current) will play for the Championship on Friday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m.

Want the tea on the teal tide rolling in this week? We’ve got all the tips you need.

Parking + transit

The first-ever stadium built for women’s professional sports has all the bells and whistles... but not a lotta parking. For the tournament, parking ranges $29-$35.

Pro tip: Pack your car with four or more people and you’ll get a $10 credit to spend in the stadium.

No pass, no problem:
  • Take the streetcar — The Berkley Riverfront extension is under works, but KC Current will “cover the last stretch” if you ride to the Rivermarket.
  • Off-site parking — Drop your car off in one of downtown’s pay-to-park garages, surface lots, or street parking to cut your travel in half.
  • Walk — After perusing the River Market, take a nice stroll across the pedestrian bridge near 2nd & Main Streets.
  • Bike — Cyclists can rest easy knowing CPKC has free bike valet.
  • Rideshare — Dedicated rideshare lanes make game-day travel an easy lyft.

Food + beverages

Enjoy local faves inside the stadium like:
  • Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que
  • Billie’s Grocery
  • Yoli Tortilleria
  • Local Pig
  • Waldo Thai
  • Martin City Brewing Co.
  • Room 39
  • Boulevard Brewing Co.
  • Ruby Jean’s Juicery
  • High Hopes Ice Cream
Still need your tickets? Grab yours for $28-$298.

From the editor
The PBS call got me wondering... What if KCtoday had a TV show? I imagine it would be more like a morning talk show rather than a traditional news broadcast. Maybe we’ll workshop it over on Instagram.
