If you couldn’t tell by walking the aisles at Target or your coworkers’ constant Chicken N Pickle invites, pickleball has taken over — and PickleCon 2024 is here to fan the flames.
The inaugural fest, hosted by Triple Crown Sports, is bringing 100 courts, 130+ vendors, and 680+ participants (including pro athletes) to the Kansas City Convention Center from Thursday, Aug. 8 to Sunday, Aug. 11.
On and off the court
Whether you’re a seasoned pickler or amateur enthusiast, there’s plenty of ways to paddle up some fun.
If you’re ready to hit the court, consider registering for the tournament. Once you’ve determined your division, choose the 4.5-hour block that works best for your schedule — no need to sacrifice off-court escapades for tourney glory.
Not competition ready? No worries. PickleCon has 13 types of camps and clinics like:
Advanced Attacking
Advanced Dinking Strategies
Intermediate Playing in the Kitchen
Veterans Pickleball Clinic
Perfect pickle playing requires a little downtime. When you’re ready for a little rest, peruse 130+ vendors on the convention floor or sit down for panel discussions on topics ranging from injury prevention and inclusivity to opening your own court.

Nom Nom’s meals are pre-portioned for your dog’s unique caloric needs, so there’s no guessing, no scooping. | Photo by Nom Nom
Dog parents know that a stimulating day begins and ends with enriching meals.
That’s why Nom Nom’s enticing variety of vet-developed recipes burst with the nutrients dogs need and the tastes and textures they crave. Imagine — beef that looks like beef and carrots that look like carrots. No high-temperature vats, artificial flavors, or impossible-to-pronounce preservatives.
That’s because Nom Nom is made with love (aww), not meat meal (eek).
How would you decorate a 1916 Tudor in the historic Rockhill neighborhood? For local artist and activist Linda Lighton, that answer is full of color, light, and lots and lots of art. Take a peek inside the family home. (IN Kansas City)

99. That’s the highest rating a player can have in the football video game Madden, and it was given to Travis Kelceagain in Madden 25. The score is awarded to the best of the best IRL players, and it’s Kelce’s fifth time receiving it — the most for any tight end ever.

Unsanctioned Olympic events Kansas City would dominate

Throughout Olympics history, there have been dynasties: sustained runs of top-of-the-podium success for countries in a specific sport.
It got Editor Maddie thinking, what are the events where Kansas Citians could take home gold year after year? And yes, we know these sports aren’t International Olympic Committee-certified… yet.
Roadway Relays
We write about traffic and road conditions way more than we’d care for — that, along with KC drivers’ recent ranking as the second speediest in the nation, make for an F1-esque skillset. I’m seeing a 71 Highway-style track with cold-snap-in-March quality roads.
Wearing city-themed merch
If you’re ever lost — in a desert, top of the Eiffel Tower, trapped in a well — look around and you’ll find someone in a Charlie Hustle heart shirt. I propose a new event: stacking as much city-themed merch you can wear on your body at once. My guess is that someone walking on the Plaza right now has already beaten the world record.
Which is older: Roger Miller’s “Kansas City Star” or the Kansas City Star newspaper?
It was pretty obvious — over 80% of readers pegged KC’s most prominent newspaper, founded in 1880, to be older than Miller’s 1965 hit country song. Kansas City Star, that’s what I are...
It’s the Heart of America Hot Dog Festival tomorrow, and I’m curious what people consider the ultimate topping combo. I’ll go first: sauerkraut, spicy mustard, grilled onions, and a dollop of ketchup on a cheddar sausage from Werner’s. How do you dress your dog?
