Don’t get us wrong,we love the Nelson — City Editor Maddie even got engaged there — but it’s not the only world-class museum in Kansas City. In addition to a day on the lawn, we recommend:
If you claim Kansas Citian status, it’s more or less mandatory to espouse the merits of KC barbecue’s saucy perfection every chance you get. That being said, the metro is bursting with other award-winning flavors.
Have another local haunt you think should make the list? Let us know and we’ll add it to the itinerary.

Traffic
Road work ahead. Until this Sunday, Aug. 11, Roe Avenue between Johnson Drive and 59th Terrace will be closed. Stormwater pipes are currently being replaced as part of a $1.5 million rehab project, which is expected to finish by 2025. (Johnson County Post)

One step closer. Funding plans for a $12.2 million bicycle + pedestrian bridge were approved by KC’s City Council last week. The bridge, set to connect the River Market and Berkley Riverfront, is projected to be complete by early 2026. (Kansas City Business Journal)
Kids

Has watching the Olympics sparked a newfound desire to dive into sports? If your joints can’t handle “breaking” and rugby still seems too rough, here’s another event to try at home: skateboarding. And we know the perfect place to learn.
Enter Goofball Sk8boards. The Waldo office space-turned-inclusive indoor skatepark is open six days a week and offers everything for beginners to pros.

Colorful felt tip pens, patterned file folders, and a rolling utility cart — because it’s back-to-school shopping season, aka the perfect time to stock up on office supplies and organization essentials.
I experienced a revelation over the weekend... and it tasted like Buffalo chicken mac and cheese. If you’re down for a killer combo of crunchy, creamy, cheesy perfection — try the baked mac at Cliff’s Taphouse and choose your perfect topping. No need to thank me, just cover my tab.
