Cast Hallmark’s Chiefs Christmas love story with KC characters
Do we wish the cast looked a bit more like this? Yes, minus the Photoshop of course. | Graphic by KCtoday
With filming already underway, it’s a bit too late to throw our hats in the ring for “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.”
That doesn’t stop our wondering though: What if this meet-cute only starred local icons? What if we totally Kansas City-fied it?
And here’s where you come in. We’ll pose the classic Hallmark tropes and you act as casting director — sharing your best nominations for people and places perfect for the role.
Our leading lady
She’s smart, she’s driven, she’s blonde, and she’s definitely not Taylor Swift (only in our “Wildest Dreams”). Which KC lady should be our lead actress?
Suggestions: Gracie Hunt, Heidi Gardner, the Space Camper astronaut
The man of the hour
The down-home boy who’s capable of bringing our city girl out of her shell. If he doesn’t look good in plaid flannel shirts, we don’t want him.
Suggestions: Paul Rudd, Mayor Q, the Scout
Their hang-ups
A high-powered business exec buying out a mom-and-pop shop, childhood sweethearts with a mysterious falling out — sure, this simple issue could be solved in a 10 minute conversation. But that’s not movie magic, is it?
Suggestions: They run competing barbecue joints. She’s from the wrong side of the tracks (you decide if that’s KS or MO)
Break-up or make-up
Tensions rise, words are exchanged + they swear each other off for the rest of time... or until fate brings them together in a final climactic moment of feel-good, lovey-dovey cinema. What’s the backdrop to their happily ever after?
Suggestions: The Chiefs winning Super Bowl LIX (obvi), on the observation deck of City Hall, or the KC Wheel

Now that you’re back from lazing by the lake, we’ve got some serious catching up to do. First, your tan looks great, and second, there were three major plays in this sports city over the holiday weekend:
KC Current’s record-breaking no-loss streak ended Saturday, July 6 against the Orlando Pride. Before the final 2-1 tally at CPKC Stadium, the Current’s record stood at 10-5-0. Tickets for both the inaugural Summer Cup + Women’s Cup are on sale now.

This is the most Royals named to the All-Star team since 2016, and Perez’s ninth All-Star appearance alone. Watch it Tuesday, July 16 on FOX, or grab a seat at Globe Life Field for $300.
Kansas City makes it to France. Two Sporting KC players — defender Jake Davis + goalkeeper John Pulskamp — have been called up to the US Men’s Olympic Soccer Team as alternates. Their first game is against host country France on Wednesday, July 24.

Are we at all surprised? Mid-century modern was voted to be my next neighborhood architecture deep dive. After some precursory research, it looks like I’ll be spending some time on the Kansas side — namely in Prairie Village, Fairway + Westwood.
