Civic

Fresh picked. Overland Park’s $34 million plan to revamp its farmers market has been approved by the city. Upgrades are centered around building an indoor pavilion for year-round use, alongside enhancing the area’s stone patio + utilities hookups. A timeline for construction is TBA. (Johnson County Post)

Weather

Thunderstorms are set to roll through the metro over the holiday. Yesterday’s severe weather will continue today with flash flooding possible for the southern half of the metro. Keep an eye on the weather + move the barbecue buffet inside. Sorry, Uncle Sam.

Sports

Bring home the gold. OP native Leanne Wong will flip into the Paris Olympics as an alternate for the US Olympics team. This will be her second appearance at the games. (Johnson County Post)

KCI has a slew of nonstop flights for all of you jet setters, but what about those pesky connecting flights? The top destination for KCI travelers without meaningful non-stop service: Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The North Carolina airport receives an average ~125 passengers daily that originate from KC. (Kansas City Business Journal)

Closed

After nearly 30 years, Gilhouly’s has closed. Located at 1721 W. 39th St., the Irish dive bar poured its last drink on Sunday. The sudden closure comes after property owners decided not to renew the lease. (Kansas City Star)

And boy, did we trip you up. The historic shopping center was made with automobiles in mind, not pedestrians like 43% of participants guessed.
