Are you mystified by mycellium? Siked about spores? Well do we have some news for you — the international Game of Shrooms is returning to the metro on Saturday, June 8.
During this global scavenger hunt, local creatives hide mushroom-themed art in their area and give clues to its whereabouts on social media.
This year, several Kansas City artists have signed up to spread the fun-gi including:
Héctor Casanova
First City Creatives
Kait Krochet
Works will start spore-ratically sprouting up around town after midnight on Saturday. Those on the hunt can find helpful hints on participating artists’ social media, just check the interactive map for details.
Once found, these mushrooms caps are all yours. Just be sure to tag or message the artist to let them know.
Interested in sharing some art of your own? Sign ups are still open.

Introducing your secret weapon against boring, tasteless meals: Purple Carrot.
Purple Carrot offers chef-prepared, fully plant-based meals that are ready to eat in under two minutes. Prefer to cook yourself? Opt for meal kits or shop plant-based grocery items from a fully stocked “plantry.”
This spring, Purple Carrot is ushering in the warm weather with vibrant, seasonal meals like Roasted Red Pepper Farro Bowls with chickpeas and mint (yum).
Rain, rain, go away. Stormy conditions are creeping back into the metro overnight, with potential for flash flooding, strong winds, and hail. Don’t worry though, it shouldn’t rain on your parade (literally) — skies should be clear for Sunday’s Pride march.

Does anyone else see Tetris? | Photo via Red Bull Ensemble
A Kansas City skateboarding team is shredding and ready to win — but they need your help.
Enter Red Bull Ensemble. Earlier this spring, eight teams of four descended on an empty storefront in Minneapolis, MN. Their task? Create their own features — ramps, railings, etc. — out of blocky geometric shapes, film it, and turn the resulting skate sesh into a short, sweet, and sick 60-second clip.
KC skaters Weston Sparks, Lucas Delao, Hunter Gonzales, and Dawson Drier did just that. After 10 days of editing, the videos (and voting) are now live on the Red Bull Ensemble website.
Want Kansas City to take home the ultimate prize? Cast your vote for the People’s Choice Champion before it closes tomorrow, Saturday, June 8.
I love First Fridays as much as the next person, but am I the only antiquer who can’t stand having just one weekend a month to peruse local faves like Good JuJu? Tell me I’m not alone.
