Swope Health Village aims to innovate healthcare in MO

Healthy living will soon be a way of life on the east side. The City of KCMO awarded Swope Health $5 million to build Swope Health Village, a neighborhood designed to provide healthcare for the mind, body, and spirit — the first of its kind in the entire state of Missouri.
“Every Kansas Citian deserves access to resources, amenities, and neighborhoods that prioritize health, wellness, and an improved quality of life,” Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw said.
It’s a full community ready to address all health concerns.

The 12-acre project will re-imagine the area around the former Swope Geriatric Center (5900 Swope Pkwy., KCMO) which closed in 2022. Its plans call for:
200 units of senior affordable housing
75 units of mental health housing which will include mental health services
“We are extremely grateful for the city’s vote of confidence in Swope Health Village,” said Swope Health President and CEO Jeron Ravin. “In all that we do, we remain steadfastly committed to the cause of health equity and access for everyone.”
In addition to the funds provided by KCMO, the state of Missouri has allocated $7.5 million toward the project. Swope Health expects it will need $100 million total for facilities + services.
Site demolition kicked off in January; construction of Swope Health Village will start in early 2025.

As the library’s biggest fan, I’m pumped for their adult readers programming.
I was a library kid growing up. My elementary school got out earlier than my parents got off work, so I would walk to my community’s library and wait for them to pick me up. There I stumbled upon books like “The Giver,” “Cotton Candy On A Rainy Day,” and “V for Vendetta” — books that forever shaped me and deepened my love for reading.
