Soon enough it’ll be hot, humid, and you’ll need reminding of why you look forward to summer in the city. Don’t worry, we’ve got a perfect answer: Art in the Loop.

The long-running outdoor arts exhibition is back for its 11th year of sprinkling local creativity along the KC Streetcar loop — and it’s finally dropped the lineup + schedule.

This year’s theme

Artists were tasked with interpreting the Spanish word “convivencia,” which means ‘coexistence’ or ‘living together.’

Sound familiar? You may have heard it first at one of the Kansas City Public Library’s 150th Anniversary celebrations.

Visual + performance artists

Out of 100+ applications, 22 artists with disciplines in everything from photography and painting to experimental jazz and aerial acrobatics, were selected for the final lineup.

Check out the full list of Kansas City creatives, and get a sneak peak of the art you’ll see pop up at KC Streetcar stops and on one KC Streetcar vehicle between June and November 2024.

    👟 Another win for walking

Mobility improvements are coming to a busy OP intersection

Get on your feet, KC. Change is coming to one of the busiest intersections in Johnson County — and it’s all for the better of pedestrians.

By partnering with the Kansas Department of Transportation, the City of Overland Park has all but secured $1.35 million in federal funds for a mobility improvement project around the College + Metcalf area. Highlights of the plan include:
    • A linear park on the south side of College Boulevard
    • A path linking College to Summercrest Trail + 112th Street to 115th Street
    • Intersection improvements on Metcalf at College and 110th
After last week’s recommendation by the OP City Council Public Works Committee, the project will now face the Overland Park City Council for approval. You can check out the fine print for yourself.

Construction on the intersection + its proposed improvements are set to begin in 2026.
