• Missouri’s Supreme Court overruled the 2022 ballot measure increasing KC’s police funding from 20% to 25%. The measure will be reintroduced to voters this November. (Kansas City Defender)

• Bamboo Penny’s, Aqua Penny’s, and now just Penny’s. The local restaurateurs are bringing another concept to the metro — this time to 4160 W. 71st St. in Prairie Village, formerly Gravity. • Overland Park’s Bluejacket Pool is making waves after announcing plans to open. The facility decided to postpone repairs that would’ve kept the pool closed this summer, allowing it to open with the city’s other outdoor pools on Sunday, May 26. (Johnson County Post)

• Queen Bey Blythe, “Kansas City’s Ambassador of Jazz,” died Monday, April 22 at her home in Los Angeles. The beloved singer performed alongside artists like B.B. King and Earl Garner, and shared her KC jazz roots through education, theater, and film. (Kansas City Star + The Call)
