Need a fresh pick-me-up to get you through another rainy day in the metro? Look no further than these reader recommendations, plus a few special selections from your City Editors.

Editor Maddie’s fresh picks

Personal fave | As one of three daughters, my family needed a corsage hookup for every prom, homecoming, graduation, Sadie Hawkins, spring formal... well you get the idea. That’s where Flowers by Emily came in — the sweet shop in Leawood’s Park Place has beautiful blooms and even offers one-of-a-kind moss art.

Make a day of it | Start and end your morning with this itinerary for Westwood Hills: grab a signature Black + White from HiHat Coffee, create your own chocolate box at Annedore’s Fine Chocolates, and step in to The Little Flower Shop to browse unique gifts and pick out some lovely local blooms.

Allergy-friendly fronds | Not too hot about pollinated petals? Gift a DIY terrarium or succulent planter class from Liberty’s KC Blooms Plant Boutique or stop by Overland Park’s Monstera’s Books and drop some green on paper + plants.

Readers’ floral favorites

"Botanica (Waldo): she always has the most beautiful garden inspired arrangements and partners with local flower farmers!” — Audrey T.

Floraloom tucked inside HITIDES Coffee (Crossroads) is my fave. Colleen is a transplant from Cali who, like me, was attracted to the slower-paced charm of KC [...] The blooms are big and actually smell like flowers, which is rare.” — Lynelle H.

Shop Local KC (in KCMO and Leawood)!! On top of beautiful flowers, they support local artists and makers!” — Maggie H.

The Fiddly Fig (South KCMO): I’ve gotten my now-fiancee floral bouquets from this cute spot for the past two years. They offer a wide selection, and my fiancee always raves about what I get her from there.” — Chad C.

I’ve got news of another kind to share with you all: I got engaged this weekend in front of the Nelson to my partner Josh.

Before anyone asks, no, we haven’t planned anything yet — but suggestions are more than welcome for our (fall?) Kansas City wedding.
