Recycling and sustainability are two important parts of keeping Kansas City a clean + safe place to live, work, and play (or party) — but it takes all of us to do our part. Today, we’re getting our hands dirty by getting into the details about how, where, and what to recycle — plus, various sustainability efforts in our area.

Adopt-A-Spot to help keep the community litter-free.
The Unified Government SOAR Program, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office and 13 other departments, is working to put a LID (get it?) on Litter & Illegal Dumping.

Sunday, May 21
Lewis and Clark Trail Bike Ride | Sunday, May 21 | 2-5 p.m. | Kaw Point Park, 1403 Fairfax Tfwy., Kansas City, KS | $40 | Urban Hikes goes cycling with a seven-mile, three-hour tour along the Lewis and Clark Trail and Riverfront Heritage Trail.
Metro North Crossing officially broke ground on a 15,000-sqft multi-tenant retail and restaurant building. The new facility will be located along 169 Highway — adjacent to the Hawaiian Bros and Whataburger. Construction will finish in December, with future tenants opening spring 2024.
Lenexa’s Old Town Community Center revitalization project is on track for a late 2024 finish. The plan will combine the functions of the Community + Senior centers — demolishing the existing Senior Center to make room for outdoor recreational space. (Shawnee Mission Post)

A new speakeasy-style spot is coming to KC. Meet Kansas City Magic Lounge, a nightlife concept featuring curated cocktails and nightly magic shows. A location and opening date has not been announced, but keep an eye on its social media for details.
Biz
Circadian Intimates is headed to Prairie Village’s Corinth Quarter. The clothing store — at 4077 W. 83rd St. — specializes in bra fitting but also sells pajamas, swimsuits, and other intimates. Customers can expect a late May opening. (Shawnee Mission Post)

We know Kansas Citians love their gas stations. Apparently, so does USA Today — as Kwik Trip landed the No. 1 spot on the “Top 10 gas stations in the US” list. The ranking comes from qualifiers like bathroom cleanliness, coffee freshness, snack options, and fuel. (USA Today)

UMKC and the Kansas City Zoo have a relationship that dates back almost 90 years. Now, the institutions are committing to a five-year partnership. From UMKC sponsored accessible pathways at the Zoo to hands-on student opportunities, the two are bonded by the roo.

Missouri Wines is officially partnering with the City Market this summer. Farmers’ market attendees can taste award-winning wines, discover new favorites, and purchase bottled + canned wine. The tastings begin on Sunday, May 21 — find the full schedule.
