The City of Kansas City has a new tool for all you cyclists out there.
The 2023 Protected Bike Lane Crowdsource Application (catchy, we know) is an interactive map that collects suggested routes and feedback on next year’s round of bicycle infrastructure construction. Residents can draw lines, plot points, and check out other people’s suggestions in the process.
Protected bike lanes are basically designated paths along streets that provide protection and visibility to cyclists. The Gillham cycletrack that opened last fall is a perfect example of one.
“Our goal is 15 miles a year,” Bobby Evans, lead transportation planner for Public Works, said.
Bobby told us the map (and your suggestions) will help them fulfill a city ordinance , where workers create a 1-year plan and a 5-year plan of possible bike lanes. They then present to City Council for approval around the beginning of the year.
