May is Mental Health Awareness Month — a movement that fights the stigma, provides support, educates communities + advocates for policies surrounding mental health.

This year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness’s message is “Together for Mental Health.” We’ve rounded up local resources for mental health services for those who struggle with or know someone experiencing mental illness.

Note: if you are facing a crisis, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or chat with someone on its website 24/7.

  • NAMI Johnson County — our local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness provides various support groups, including family to family + peer to peer, both in-person and virtually.
  • ReDiscover is a nonprofit community mental health center that provides comprehensive programs and services for people who have been affected by mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
  • The Kansas City Center for Anxiety Treatment specializes in OCD, anxiety, mood, and stress-related treatments for all ages.
  • The Lilac Center uses dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help individuals regain control of their lives.
  • KC CARE offers mental health care services such as therapy, psychiatry, substance abuse counseling + non-medication pain management.
  • Suicide Awareness Survivors Support is a nonprofit organization that promotes healing by providing a network of support in the aftermath of suicide.
  • Pathway to Hope provides virtual support groups + affordable, supportive housing for up to six Olathe residents living with mental illness.
  • Mental Health America of the Heartland promotes mental health awareness through advocacy, education, and support.
