Two questions.
One: what are your big plans for Valentine’s Day? Carriage rides? Champagne? Escargot at Le Fou Frog?
Two: have you made the reservation yet?
You know what they say about best laid plans. Luckily, there’s plenty of ways to treat yourself and your special someone without a reservation — and plenty are free, to boot.
🔓 Did you know KC has its very own love locks bridge? Visit the Old Red Bridge in Minor Park to lock it in.
🖼️ There’s nothing like a quiet stroll at the Nelson, plus a visit to the Rozzelle Court when you’re feeling peckish (or photogenic). Pro tip: hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., so make sure to plan ahead.
♟️ For couples feeling competitive, consider a game of chess on Kansas City Public Library’s life-sized chess board, located on its Rooftop Terrace.
🕰️ Don’t get us wrong — we love chocolates, flowers, and love letters. But browse River Market Antiques, Parkville Antique Mall, or any of the metro’s antique shops to find something that truly says, “I know you.”
🌇 We’re looking at a clear, cool Valentine’s Day (fingers crossed), so if you’re feeling a sunset, try the overlook at Case Park on Quality Hill or the Kansas City Museum (free admission, by the way).
🌱 Speaking of clear + cool, grab a jacket and explore the Overland Park Botanical Gardens or Kauffman Memorial Garden to admire some natural beauty. (Or for the more rugged, lace up your hiking boots.)
