Kansas City to host Big 12 tournaments through 2031

Between men’s and women’s basketball through 2031 and NWSL tournaments for 2024 and 2025, the metro’s rep as a national sports capital is only growing.

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark made two big announcements this week that mark Kansas City as a magnet for national sports — particularly women’s sports.

First, the Big 12 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will remain at the T-Mobile Center through 2031. Yormark cited the metro’s overwhelming sports fandom as a key factor that made the extension an obvious choice.

This past season moved the women’s championship from Municipal Auditorium to T-Mobile, a change made to elevate women’s basketball to the level of popularity traditionally seen in men’s games.

Second, the Big 12 women’s soccer championship will be held at CPKC Stadium in 2024 and 2025. As the world’s first dedicated women’s soccer stadium, the home of the Current will host all 11 matches starting Wednesday, Oct. 30.
