Breaking down Kansas City’s Enneagram

Last month, we posed a very personal question:

What Enneagram type is Kansas City?

First, a quick refresher. The Enneagram system is a dynamic personality system composed of nine types. It aims to identify our core motivations, patterns + fixations at a deeper level in order to understand how they affect our approaches to life, work, and relationships.

We waffled between two different types…

Type 2 – The Helper: Caring, interpersonal, generous + people-pleasing.
Essence: Compassion

Type 7 – The Enthusiast: Busy, variety-seeking, spontaneous, versatile, acquisitive + scattered.
Essence: Serene Bliss

But after really thinking about it, a strong argument could be made for Type 3.

Type 3 — The Achiever: Success-oriented, pragmatic, adaptable, driven + image-conscious.
Essence: Love and acceptance.

Why the new type?

Well, let’s break it down….

✔️ Success-oriented: Earlier this year, US News & World Report ranked KC as one of the best places to live in America. Five of Missouri’s top 20 school districts are in the area. And oh yeah, how ‘bout those Chiefs?

✔️ Adaptable: Downtown’s explosive growth the past 20 years, coupled with the launch of multiple new transportation options (MAX, KC Streetcar), show the city is working to improve livability for everyone.

✔️ Love and acceptance: I mean, say less.

But maybe the answer isn’t just one of these types. You could really make an argument about any of the nine. Which, if we’re being honest, is what makes Kansas City so great.
