It’s the last weekend for Sunflower Fest at this family-friendly destination. For those 21 and older, walk across the property to KC Wine Co. — Editor Travis recommends the Sunflower Red.
Grinter’s Sunflower Farm, 24154 Stillwell Rd., Lawrence, KS
One of the most popular fields around KC (and a ~30-minute drive from downtown), this location is best visited during the week when it’s less crowded. Entry is free, but there’s a box for donations.
Gieringers Family Orchard & Berry Farm, 39345 W. 183rd St., Edgerton, KS
Head out this weekend and pick your own sunflowers, zinnias, and apples. There’s a $3 access fee. When you’re done, you can enjoy the farm market — this year with soft serve ice cream.
The Pumpkin Pad, 35100 E. Outer Belt Rd., Lone Jack, MO
A hop, skip, and a jump away from those out in Eastern Jackson County, this U-pick location boasts four sunflower fields planted in different stages (plus, rides and attractions for the young + young at heart). Admission is $14.
Atkins-Johnson Farm, 4109 NE Pleasant Valley Rd., Gladstone, MO
This historic Northland farm is less than 20 minutes from downtown. Visit its exhibits + gardens, and take home sunflowers, pumpkins, and sweet corn grown seasonally. Admission is free.

This popular south-metro farm is expecting sunflower season to start on Fri., Sept. 2 (one week from today). Check Facebook to see exact days, times, and prices.
The Fun Farm, 650 N. Jefferson St., Kearney, MO
This prime Northland spot right off of I-35 is bursting with activities. U-pick apples and peaches is still happening now, but tickets go on sale Mon., Sept. 8 for the Fall Festival (featuring sunflowers).
