By now you’ve surely heard about the movie vault of the main library branch or perhaps even the seed library, but that’s just where this story begins. Your KCPL library card comes packed with perks that will make you renew your membership immediately.

“I don’t think people know that we have different kits that you can check out, like a stargazing one and a bird-watching kit,” Customer Service Manager Shelby Clark said.

These outdoorsy kits are found at the Ruiz Branch ( 2017 W. Pennway St., KCMO) but can be reserved + shipped to any KCPL location. Clark says Ruiz is KCPL’s nature-themed branch, so it holds the aforementioned kits, the main seed library, and even has hiking backpacks for you to checkout.

Your KCPL card can also help you reach your language goals with access to language learning apps Bluebird and Pronunciatorso you can brush up on you french for free before your trip to Paris.

The library also helps bridge the digital gap, providing Chromebooks and hotspots for checkout. Since the era of the home computer has passed, many people only have access to computers at work.

Want to check out the goodies for yourself? Make sure your library card is up-to-date. If you need to renew you can handle it all online — no special trip needed.
