Winner: Sleigh Bells Ring by Luke Whitmore

Any Kansas Citian probably has a photo album on their phone of all their Plaza lights pics. We loved this homage to a classic and couldn’t help but connect to the sweet moment on screen. Carriage ride, anyone?

Finalist: Kaufman Center Moon Blast by Brian H.

We saw a lot of photos that featured this familiar landmark but one stood out. Between the beautiful symmetry, unexpected color, fresh angle, and symbolic meaning (anyone else see a city united in red + blue?) — this shot was a clear winner.

Minus the black ice, freezing temps + even colder wind chill, Kansas City really is gorgeous under all this snow. That being said, we still can’t wait for summer — this pop of magenta reminds us that, with a little time, we’ll be ready to bloom by the end of the season.

Dark. Moody. Totally Gorgeous. All apt words to describe one of the best art museums in the nation... and this terrific image.

If you asked us what KC’s defining moment of 2023 was — we’d say this one right here. Winning our second Super Bowl in four years proved what the Red Kingdom already knew: It wasn’t luck that got us here.

Yes, this is in the KC metro. This beautiful shot features a tulip festival in Kearney where everything but the geotag suggests an international photoshoot.

Finalist: Union Station — Spring 2023 by Michael H.

This new angle of an old favorite is anything but the typical and it certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s featuring our new favorite color... KC Current Teal.

Voting closes Sunday, Jan. 28 — so be sure to vote for the photo you think should be crowned the winner of the inaugural KCtoday Picture of the Year contest.

The winner will receive a $25 gift card to use at our online marketplace, Six & Main.
