We’ve got an important question about hot dogs for you. No, not whether they are sandwiches, tacos, or neither, but rather — what is the Kansas City-style hot dog?
Some say its a dog with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and a sesame seed bun. Others insist no food is truly KC-style without barbecue.
We decided to ask our readers and here is what they cooked up:
- Go local for the bun — McLain’s pull-apart rolls can’t be beat.
- For the weenie itself, it’s all beef or bust. We’ll pass the mic to a reader: “Hello, we’re cattle land.”
- Now top it off with either pulled pork or brisket (or both).
We’ll let you decide which barbecue sauce. But we have to shout out one reader who ditched the barbecue altogether and suggested we top the dog with “Travis Kelce beard hairs, a little bit of fountain water, and some Ruffles.”
