With Earth Day just round the corner, it’s the perfect time to roll up those sleeves and give back to our beautiful city — starting with a little spring cleaning. We’ve rounded-up a few options for locals to get their hands dirty for a good cause, including how to do it on your own time.
Join the big push
First up: The Great Kansas City Cleanup on Saturday, April 19. Whether you’re in your own neighborhood or part of a group, you can join the citywide effort to pick up litter, brighten up public spaces, and show your KC pride. It’s a win for the environment — and a great excuse to meet some fellow do-gooders.
Keep KC clean year-round
- Through the Neighborhood Cleanup Assistance Program (NCAP), local groups can grab free blue bags from Community Action Network centers and start tackling litter like pros. You pick up the trash, the city handles the rest.
- The Neighborhood Empowerment Grant could be your ticket to boosting wellness and beautifying the city with up to $20,000 in funding for community projects.
- Keeping your calendar filled with feel-good activities by subscribing to the city’s volunteer calendar, where you can find events like Make a Difference Mondays or handy drop-offs for everything from old electronics to tires and leaf piles.
