The dog days of summer are hot on our tails — the temperatures are rising, and the outdoors are calling. Enter: The Shops of Prairie Village.

This food, bev, and shopping destination is located on Mission Road between Tomahawk Road + 71st Street. If you’re looking for something to do this summer, consider this your one-stop shop for scrumptious meals, quaint outdoor seating, and fun programming — for you, your family, and even your pet.

We recently took our dog, Ollie, to lunch, dessert, and a bit of shopping. Here’s what we tried and how you can Try This.

What we tried:

We were licking our chops, too.

Scratch Gourmet Kitchen has a great selection of enticing entrees — and each is paired with a wine from the restaurant’s extensive list. We tried the pan-seared salmon with charred asparagus, paired with a Pinot blanc from Germany. Ollie enjoyed a bowl of water and some shade.

First of all, Dolce Bakery’s outdoor area whisked us away to a garden paradise (read: the perfect spot for pictures with the pup). We ordered a mini flourless chocolate torte from the display case, and the clerk treated us to a peanut butter dog treat, too. Needless to say, Ollie was over the moon.

What we’re still talking about:

The pet amenities at The Shops are a doggy’s daydream. We’re talking about water bowls outside of select businesses — we noticed them at Hen House and Chico’s. Plus, GoodVets is a pet clinic that believes its vets should be pet owners — and there’s a dog waste station just outside.

In search of pet accessories, supplies + services? Pet People features a large selection of pet foods, treats, and items like toys, leashes, and harnesses. On The Ball offers doggie daycare, boarding, and grooming services (plus, free treats and ear scratches).

How you can experience this:

Bring your pup to the Summer Clocktower Concert Series (happening on three Thursdays June-August from 6-8 p.m.) to enjoy local talent and enjoy the shopping center vibes (think: twinkle lights and drinks at nearby locations).

There’s more fun where that came from: Sign up for the Shops of Prairie Village newsletter to get the scoop on all their upcoming events, including their first annual Halloweener Derby and Doggie Costume Contest later this fall.
