The bigger the better.

Architects assemble. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art has a mission for you: build its latest expansion. Open globally to architects of all levels, the new edition will be ~61,000 sqft, have a budget of ~$170 million and include:

  • An entrance + welcome foyer
  • Photography center
  • Additional exhibition galleries
  • Hands-on learning spaces
  • Black box theater
  • Restaurant with indoor-outdoor dining options

Fun fact: The museum last expanded in 2015 when it added the Bloch Galleries, a collection of 29 works by impressionist + post-impressionist 19th century artists.

The deadline to submit is Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Up to five finalists will move on to the second stage in November. These final five will create concepts which will be publicly displayed for your viewing pleasure in spring 2025. Following the fanfare, the final winner will be announced.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
