Hear that? It’s the sweet, sweet sound of (almost) silence. | Photo by @mikedayphotography
If I need to clear my head or reset creatively, I take myself on a mini art walk that ends at the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden — easily one of the most peaceful places in KC. Tucked a few blocks from the Nelson, it feels like a well-kept secret: full of fountains, seasonal blooms, and just enough quiet to hear your own thoughts (plus the occasional hello from the orangery’s live-in cat).
It’s run by the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Family Foundation, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The latter of which also operates Kauffman FastTrac®, Real World Learning, and 1 Million Cups — programs that quietly shape KC’s startup scene, college readiness, and small biz community. Just one more reason this little garden feels like the heartbeat of something bigger.

$100 billion. That’s how much an unnamed company may invest in a new Northland data center campus, dubbed “Project Kestrel.” Kansas City Business Journal suspects it’s a familiar player (just Google it), with plans for six hyperscale buildings totaling 1.8 million sqft — the region’s largest-ever development of its kind.

In the haze of the holiday weekend, I almost missed a sacred celebration — World Chocolate Day, which snuck by yesterday. I’ll be making up for lost time with a trip to Christopher Elbow in the Crossroads (but you can choose your own adventure), followed by a crate-digging session at Josey Records next door.
