Where to watch (besides your couch)

Though the weather is less than ideal, the vibes in Kansas City have been absolutely stellar — like “day before summer vacay"-level stellar. Keep up the (metaphorical) sunshine ahead of Super Bowl LIX by nailing down your weekend plans with a few KCtoday-approved watch parties:
  • Bar Stilwell | Open hours | Loews Hotel, 1515 Wyandotte St. | Sip on “The French Blonde” while you scope out its big screens for any T. Swift sightings, or opt for the Ultimate Game Day Suite Experience.
  • Cinder Block Brewery | 12 p.m. | 110 18th Ave. | No reservation, no problem — enjoy Cinder Block’s specialty cocktails and a special tailgate menu from F325 BBQ.
  • DoubleTap KC | 4:30 p.m. | 310 Oak St. | Smoked wings + loads of game day specials make this screen-heavy hot spot one of our Super Bowl picks.
  • Screenland Armour | 4:45 p.m. | 408 Armour Rd., NKC | This silver screen experience offers gameday specials and reclining chairs — besides, when else will you be allowed to yell in a movie theater?
  • Westport’s Mega Watch Party | 12 p.m. | Multiple locations | While it’s not the official name, it’s what we’ve decided to call the joint celebration between four connected bars — Bar & Rec, The Patio, The Landing, and The Jungalow — featuring 50+ big screens and no cover.

News Notes

Sports

Late June or early July — that’s when fans can expect to hear the Royals’ plans for a new stadium, according to Chairman and CEO John Sherman. Since voters nixed an East Crossroads ballpark in April 2024, only two potential sites have been leaked: KC’s Washington Square Park and OP’s Aspiria campus. (KCBJ)

Watch

Hear that rumble? It’s not only in your stomach. Good Morning America kicked off the “Battle of the Bites” on yesterday’s program, a segment showcasing snack table staples from KC and Philadelphia in a culinary face-off. We might be biased, but we’re betting on the spread from McLain’s Bakery and Meshuggah Bagels. (ABC News)

Coming Soon

The unassuming two-story building at 1717 W. Ninth St. has lived many lives — as a Soviet-themed night club, underground gallery, Prohibition-era “soda shop” — and in its next, an international lounge called Laila. Similar to LA’s high-profile Raspoutine, this West Bottoms bar will feature a rotation of globally-themed drinks, small bites, and entertainment. (Kansas City Star)

Giveaway

Not all fans are made the same. If you’re more elevated cocktails than crockpot cheese dip, consider throwing your Chiefs hat in the ring for Crossroads Hotel’s gameday giveaway. One lucky winner will get a $50 food and beverage credit at XR, as well as a one night stay — perfect for any late night partiers.
Red is definitely your color, Kansas City. If your home needs a refresh ahead of this weekend’s festivities (or to carry you through off-season blues), consider taking a few ideas from these local interior designers and their KC canvases. (IN Kansas City)
