The algorithms have spoken

What would you see on a perfect trip through KC? That answer undoubtedly shifts from person to person — but what about from robot to robot?

We asked an AI called WonderPlan to create an itinerary for a three-day weekend for those on a moderate budget wanting to sight-see with friends. Here’s what it drummed up.

Editor’s note: WonderPlan came up with the locations, but did not write anything below.

Day One

Start your Friday with an hour at the Crown Center. Explore the City Market, then pop into the Kansas City Museum followed by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

End your day exploring the Crossroads. (While you’re there make sure you pop into Town Topic.)

This gorgeous museum is also the perf photo opp.

Day Two

Leisurely stroll through the Country Club Plaza, then head to Union Station for some indoor fun. Afterwards, choose between visiting the Kauffman Center, perusing the Power and Light District, or hanging out in Westport. The AI actually suggested you do all three but we think you should pace yourself.

Bonus: you get to admire this beautiful view of the KC skyline when you visit the Kauffman Center.

Day Three

Round off your KC adventure with a morning trip to the American Jazz Museum and an afternoon excursion at the Kansas City Zoo.

Asked

What’s one KC spot you think everyone should visit?

Yes, you can only pick one. Choose wisely.

Biz

💳 Give the gift of local

No need to make room in your wallet, just send it via text. | Photo via KCtoday
A new KC-based biz just launched: Gift Card Market, a digital platform that helps you send gift cards from local businesses.

Its goal is to make supporting local even easier. With more than five million restaurants, spas, and salons in its database, you can do just that by typing the name and location of the biz + entering your payment info. Then, the gift card is sent off via text or email. The best part? There’s no cost for businesses.

Editor Charm and Editor Maddie recently attended its launch event and tested it out by sending a Rye gift card — and it was as easy as a piece of Rye pie.

To celebrate the roll out, Gift Card Market is serving as the presenting sponsor for Kansas City Restaurant Week, happening Friday, Jan. 10-Sunday, Jan.19, 2025.

Want to get a jump start on gift shopping for the holiday season? You can check out the platform at thegiftcardmarket.com

Remember when I told you guys I was starting a dinner club? Yeah, I had to put that on pause. Having a newborn doesn’t really lend itself to going out to dinner regularly.

But the dinner tables are turning. I’m thinking of doing dinner club with a twist: instead of going out, we order in once a month and rate the best takeout in KC. Let me know if you want me to share my research.
