Fall is here. Read: It’s officially hosting season. Whether you’re throwing football watch parties, a spooky Halloween soirée, or a festive Thanksgiving feast, now’s the time to refresh your home with the steals of the season.

Today, Oct. 7 is the last day to shop Way Day — aka Wayfair’s huge sale — and you won’t want to miss the thousands of limited-time deals on all things home goods. We’re talking up to 80% off, free shipping, and flash deals.

So without further ado, let’s get party planning. Here’s what we’re eyeing:

Kitchen essentials

  • Autumn treats cake pan: Leaves, pumpkins, and acorns adorn this charming nonstick pan.
  • Modern bar cart: Perfect for displaying your favorite Boulevard beers, this bar on wheels can be easily moved.
  • Bar tools set: While we’re talking special drinks, you’ll probably need this, too.
  • Le Creuset baking dishes: Cook your favorite family recipe in style with this must-have trifecta.
  • Chips and dips platter: Assemble your go-to game day snacks to cheer on the Chiefs in this sleek porcelain dish.

Dinner with a view

  • Vintage-inspired globe chandelier: They say a new light fixture can transform a room, and this three-light pendant looks like it will do the trick (or treat).
  • Upholstered dining chairs: Modern style meets supreme comfort with this set of ergonomically designed seats.
  • Stoneware pumpkin trio: Adorn your mantle with these harvest-hued decorations to add a bountiful burst of fall color to any room.
  • Extendable dining table: Need more space? This solid wood table comes with a leaf to help accommodate extra guests and plenty of home-cooked dishes — or takeout from Chingu.

Outdoor entertaining

Pro tip: Give your guests something to talk about with this revolutionary smart bidet, complete with four cleaning modes + a heated seat.

Running clubs in Kansas City

Get ready to sweat it out with six local running groups. | Photo by Run It BlaKC
When people decide to get into running, it can be an uphill battle without some help: What routes are safe? Which paths have the least amount of incline? And don’t get us started about all the different types of shoes on the market...

That’s why running clubs are so helpful. Whether you’re a newbie full of questions or a longtime runner looking for a little fun, these groups offer expertise and camaraderie in one go.

  • KC Express | Saturdays, 7 + 7:30 a.m., Tuesdays, 6 p.m. | It’s an all-woman org ready to help you reach your fitness goals with separate walk/run meets, training groups, weekly forums + a serious dose of sisterhood.
  • Kansas City Running Club | Daily, times vary | It’s the most comprehensive club on the list with small groups hitting the pavement in every corner of the metro. Don’t miss out on its “Easy Like Sunday Morning” runs at Loose Park.
  • Percheron Run Club | Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. | Cruise around the Crossroads for a runner’s high you can’t find outside the city — we recommend treating yourself to a post-run cocktail on the rooftop.

Last week we asked, “What’s your fave KC-specific way to treat yourself?” and here’s what you said:

While only a few readers wrote in to share their not-so-guilty pleasures, all of the responses seemed to have one thing in common:
  • “A chocolate bag from McCormick & Schmick’s!”
  • “Nice meal at Cafe Trio!”
  • “Standing at Liberty Memorial overlooking the city while enjoying a delicious Guatemalan pour over from the Roasterie. Pure magic.”
Apparently, the way to a Kansas Citian’s heart is through their stomach... but maybe we already knew that.

As readers of a daily newsletter, I’m willing to go out on a branch and guess you’re on the hunt for even more quality local journalism.

One of my favorites as of late is The New Territory, a digital + print magazine detailing life in the Great Plains and Ozarks. I’m always delighted to see Kansas City journalists, writers, artists, photographers, etc. in its biannual bylines.
