When people decide to get into running, it can be an uphill battle without some help: What routes are safe? Which paths have the least amount of incline? And don’t get us started about all the different types of shoes on the market...

That’s why running clubs are so helpful. Whether you’re a newbie full of questions or a longtime runner looking for a little fun, these groups offer expertise and camaraderie in one go.

  • KC Express | Saturdays, 7 + 7:30 a.m., Tuesdays, 6 p.m. | It’s an all-woman org ready to help you reach your fitness goals with separate walk/run meets, training groups, weekly forums + a serious dose of sisterhood.
  • Kansas City Running Club | Daily, times vary | It’s the most comprehensive club on the list with small groups hitting the pavement in every corner of the metro. Don’t miss out on its “Easy Like Sunday Morning” runs at Loose Park.
  • 816 Run Club | Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. | This club has an “all distances” model, which means you can keep up for two miles or twenty, perfect for those who want to grow in their practice.
  • Percheron Run Club | Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. | Cruise around the Crossroads for a runner’s high you can’t find outside the city — we recommend treating yourself to a post-run cocktail on the rooftop.
  • Run It BlaKC | Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m. + Saturdays, 8 a.m. | Created for Black runners, joggers + walkers to connect with fellow fitness enthusiasts, join the group for endless good vibes.
  • Kansas Run Club | Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. | If you believe there’s strength in numbers, lace up for one of KRC’s weeknight meetups to take on the Plaza with 100+ new friends.
