Anyone else remember Disney’s “Pass the Plate” series? Today, we’re taking you on our own journey to find international food right here in Kansas City.

Whether you are looking to prepare family recipes, expand your palate, or cook meals from a study abroad — these grocery stores offer international products that you can’t find anywhere else.

Crossland Market, 19 E. 3rd St., KCMO | This City Market stop specializes in ingredients from Africa, South and Central America, and the Caribbean.

888 Int’l Market, 10118 W. 119th St., Overland Park, KS | It’s one of the largest Asian markets in the metro, offering everything from produce and baked goods to cosmetics and electric appliances.

Chinatown Food Market, 202 Grand Blvd., KCMO | Prep for tonight’s Mid-Autumn Moon Festival with specialty mooncakes from this Asian grocer — or stop in anytime for its extensive fishmonger and a butcher shop.

El Mercado Fresco, multiple locations | Perhaps the most prolific on this list, the locally-owned Hispanic grocery store chain offers an authentic variety of products.

World Fresh Market, 10303 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS | Since opening last spring, the global grocer has already amassed a loyal following. Its dedicated falafel department may have something to do with that...

Werner’s Specialty Foods, 5736 Johnson Dr., Mission, KS | Known for its sausages, the meat mart offers all sorts of European staples, like English bangers and German schnitzel, alongside its pantry items.

Mediterranean Market, 1404 Westport Rd., KCMO | Shop for rare finds like premium spices and olive oils before grabbing a bite from its in-store restaurant.

While “working from home” at McLain’s yesterday, I met Bryan West — better known as USA Today’s Taylor Swift reporter — on assignment at the local bakery. He offered me a friendship bracelet before darting off to his next appointment... I wonder who he’s in town to see.
