Pizza pop-up opens permanent storefront in Martini Corner

There’s a block of Kansas City where the brunch bar scene and late night revelers collide in delicious harmony.

Martini Corner, found at the intersection of 31st and Gillham, is a can’t miss destination for local foodies — featuring spots like Barrio Taqueria, Cliff’s Taphouse, NOKA — and now, newcomer Orange By: Devoured.

The pandemic project-turned-pop-up has long served “eclectic pizza combinations” + snack-adjacent treats (i.e. pizza pockets and cinnamon sticks), but this latest venture aims to expand its offerings with shareable tapas. Previewed for this weekend already is the spot’s intricately plated smoked salmon toast.

It seems that Orange By: Devoured, with its retro-inspired decor, bright color-blocking, and casual atmosphere, is filling a never-knew-we-needed role for the neighborhood — a quality spot for quick bites (and even more Instagramable photo ops).

Can’t wait to stop by the neighborhood slice shop? First, feast your eyes on its feature in Hulu’s Best in Dough series, episode 5. Second, come hungry to its grand opening at 325 E. 31st St. this Thursday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the lunch crowd + 5:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. for any late night cravings.

Answered: Does a parking garage belong on Berkley Riverfront?

What once began on the water is looking toward the river once again. With a swath of new development already transforming the Berkley Riverfront, and more to come — a proposal by The Parking Co. of America to build a ~1,500-space parking garage on CPKC’s south end has stirred controversy.

After sharing the news with our readers earlier this week, we posed the question to them: “Would you support a tax-subsidized parking garage on the riverfront?”

There was no landslide winner — ~36% of readers said they would prefer the city to prioritize more transit-friendly initiatives, while 31% would love to see more parking in the area.
