Ranked
Two local spots were named to Time’s annual list of the World’s Greatest Places: CPKC stadium and our new children’s literature museum The Rabbit hOle. If you haven’t seen these two spots yet we’d say it’s about time to pay them a visit.
Number
$25 million. That’s how much money has been donated to KC’s diaper bank, Happy Bottoms, as of this week. The local nonprofit has been dishing out diapers to metro families in need since 2009. Want to do your doody? You can donate once or on a monthly basis. (FOX4)
Sports
Well, only if eating is a sport. To celebrate the Olympics, McLain’s Bakery’s Waldo location (201 E. Gregory Blvd.) is selling cookie cups with gold, silver, and bronze cookie medals buried in a select few. Be lucky enough to find one + you’ll stand on the (imaginary) podium with a gift card.
Drink Up
How refreshing. Drink Up Week runs through today — our annual celebration of Kansas City’s drink culture. Local businesses are offering buzzy deals like BOGO half off smoothies + energy drinks at Lee’s Summit Nutrition and reverse happy hour at Restless Spirits Distilling, so treat yourself and toast to our town’s vibrant bevvy scene.
Legacy
Former KU athletic director Bob Marcum has died at the age of 87. Under his leadership from 1978 to 1982, the department boasted 15 Big Eight Conference titles across six sports. (Kansas City Star)
2024’s “it card” is here. Not only does it offer a $200 bonus, but also unlimited 1.5% cash back and 0% intro APR until 2025. (Annual fee? We don’t know her.)*

KC coffee shops as zodiac signs
Now brewing: coffee with a side of astrology. | Photo by @parisicoffee
Our local coffee scene is brewed strong. Each spot offers celestial flavors + a distinct ambiance that keeps Kansas City buzzing. If you were to think of these unique shops as zodiac signs, here’s how they would align.
With “corazón” translating to “heart,” this spot is a perfect fit for the warm, loving nature Leos possess. These lions are anything but cowardly, making sure to let their presence be known — similar to both of Café Corazón’s stunning murals.
The botanical cafe in a greenhouse sums up Virgo’s practical + grounded qualities. As an earth sign, it sure doesn’t hurt to nurture those roots with the company of a plant or two while working at one of its cozy indoor seating spots.
A foldable lap desk — it’s great for those who work from home, college students heading back to school, or anyone looking to read, write, or stream while they sip coffee in bed (read: us).
It’s Fri-yay. We made it everyone. I am excited to snuggle up in my cozy reading nook and page through a few books that have been on my backlog, like “Finley Donovan Is Killing It.” I got it immediately during the debut two years ago and all I’ve had time to do is take pretty pictures of its cover... until now.
