🫖 Here’s the tea — it’s Drink Up Week
Three hands are holding bright orange, fizzy drinks rimmed with an orange wedge and toasting; a table covered in grapefruit and oranges serves as a backdrop.

Drink Up Week is finally here and we have a feeling it’ll be the toast of the town.

Here’s the tea — today through Friday, July 26, we’re celebrating the entrepreneurs, mixologists, venues, and beverages that make Kansas City go ‘round.

As you know, we’ve created an interactive map of can’t-miss deals offered by local businesses in Kansas City. Here are the top deals our KCtoday editors have their eyes on — and what they plan to pair with these drinks.

City Editor Maddie can’t wait for her week-night doubleheader. First stop: Restless Spirits’ reverse happy hour for $2 off its Blueberry Pie cocktail — then a walk with friends to Screenland Armour to see the new “Twisters” (psst, tickets are only $5 on Tuesdays).

City Editor Charmaine can’t wait for the BOGO 1/2 off smoothies deal she’s going to snag at Lee’s Summit Nutrition, before expanding her family library at KD’s Books.

We hope you enjoy sipping your way through our city this week. Cheers to you and happy Drink Up Week, Kansas Citians.

News Notes

Development
  • Hold on to your hard hats. The Rock Island Bridge, which was expected to open this summer, has delayed its debut until spring 2025. In the meantime, its creators are working on ways for locals to explore the 1905 bridge-turned-entertainment hub, including guided tours. (Startland News)
Civic
  • More bridge news, abridged. KCK’s 18th Street bridge is getting a $62.6 million makeover thanks to federal grants. Work will begin on the bridge in 2025, shutting it down until its expected completion after ~2 years. (Kansas City Business Journal)
Opening
  • Meet La Casa del Padel. Popularized in Latin America + Europe, the tennis-adjacent racket sport has found its newest home in Overland Park, thanks to the efforts of six Sporting KC stars, including Graham Zusi and Andreu Fontàs. Opening is expected as early as this weekend.
Traffic
  • Round and round. Roundabouts are one of the most effective designs for decreasing traffic accidents — so why are there not more in KC? Check out The Beacon’s deep dive on what makes these confusing constructions popular, but rare.
Wellness
  • Don’t let summer heat drain you. Native Hydrate electrolyte drink mix contains all nine essential amino acids, keeping you optimally hydrated and full of energy.*
Finance
  • Did you know you could finance your fixer-upper with home equity? You could get up to $50K with a HELOC — calculate your payment.*

The Buy

Your favorite find from our list of home goods on sale in Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Hint: think $200 off Le Creuset cookware + $50 off Sijo Eucalyptus sheets.

From the editor
While the inside of our home is still empty by-and-large, it’s easier (and cheaper) for me to spruce the place up with lots of house plants + outdoor gardening. This weekend, my fiancé and I raided Virgil’s Plant Shop + rOOTS KC.
