Peek behind the (animated) curtain with Disney100

Calling all kiddos (and kids at heart).

Beginning today, the public can experience one of the Walt Disney Archives’ largest undertakings —

Disney100, a 250+ object exhibition featuring art, memorabilia, costumes, and props honoring the century-long history of the Walt Disney Company... and it’s all at Union Station.

City Editor Maddie stopped by yesterday for a sneak peek of the experience and let’s just say, there’s a lot to see.

As the city that gave Walt Disney his start, the first exhibit is exclusive to the KC experience and loaded with hometown history — like his UMKC connection.

Walk further through its 10 galleries and you’ll get to nerd out at everything from animator models for Mulan (1998) and Ratatouille (2007) to original costume for Captain Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean, 2003).

Interactivity is key, with 14 photo ops, listening stations, and other installations that let you get up close and personal with the magic.

What’s our favorite feature? Unfortunately, it’s only here for opening day, Friday, May 24: the Mandalorian’s real-life Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) animatronic — wiggling ears, baby coos, and all.

The exhibit runs through Saturday, November 30 (just in time for another first-of-its-kind experience in KC), with opening hours every day of the week. Tickets start at $18.50.

Besides barbecue sauce, what condiment should Kansas City be known for?

Answered: Besides barbecue sauce, what condiment is king in KC?

We do not joke about our sauces here in KC.

So it was only natural to see what condiment takes second place in the hearts (and on the plates) of our readers.

Turns out, a little bit of everything. Over half of our audience split their vote between locally-made salsas and honey, with the other 30% claiming our hot sauces and burger sauces are the next best Kansas City masterpieces.

Here at KCtoday, we think it’s all delicious. You can pick up metro-based brands for the fridge and pantry, like a bottle of Messner Bee Farm’s Hot Honey, in-person or online at both the Made in KC Marketplaces and KCK’s Spicin Foods.

Now that the votes are in, I’ll throw in my two cents on the KC sauce competition. The winner (in my heart) is not even an option on board: Pizza Tascio’s ranch is pure ambrosia.
