There’s music in the air... more so than usual. That’s because it’s International Jazz Day (Tuesday, April 30), and as the US’s only UNESCO City of Music, it’s a pretty big deal here in KC.

Start tapping your toes with:
  • Center for Recorded Music | 12-6 p.m. | UMKC Student Union, 5100 Cherry St., KCMO | Free | Listen to classic records, live music, and special guests.
  • Latin Jazz Institute | 5:30-7 p.m. | 1617 Baltimore Ave., KCMO | Free with RSVP | Learn about jazz heritage and the KC-Chile Jazz Exchange.
  • KC Jazz Alive | 7 p.m. | 3400 Main St., KCMO | $0-$20 | This panel discussion focuses on the past, present + future impact of the Kansas City sound.
Want a way to keep the music going? Tune in anytime to local jazz radio station KOJH-LP 100.5 FM, a partner of Mutual Musicians Foundation. The American Jazz Museum is another local treasure — stop by for historic exhibits and live performances at the Blue Room.
